81 Chevy K10-305, Flywheel dust cover bolts
« on: January 02, 2013, 10:27:42 pm »
On my 81 as I was trying to figure out where all my oil went in two weeks, I noticed that my flywheel dust cover has one bolt left holding it up. Does anyone know what size these are where I can get some for a reasonable price. Been to the junk yard out here and all the trucks are pretty much scavenged already. Thanks

Not all are the same. It depends on what trans, and if its automatic, or stick, 4x4 or 2 wheel peel. Most common are 1/4x20. 4x4 700R4s are metric, I think they are 12 or 14 MM, don't know the thread count. If I had to guess I would say 1.25, or 1.50.
The dust shield doesn't hold oil in though.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

OK, thanks that narrows it down. Its a automatic 4x4 with the 5.0 305 in it. I know it doesn't hold oil, when I was getting underneath to inspect and see where the oil leaking from when I noticed the cover just dangling there and the all but one bolt was missing and dont know the size to replace the missing one.

Take the one bolt you have and have it matched.

Thanks, I had that Idea but, I was just seeing if anyone knew the size before I took that one bolt off and go on a treasure hunt. My wife's Buick been in the shop and this truck has been our daily driver for the past month and has been good to us and didnt wanna take the cover off and drive without it and mess something up due to I live 15 miles from the closest town.

You better take the cover off before you loose the whole thing if only 1 bolt is there and " it is dangling ".
