np203 help
« on: January 15, 2013, 10:32:31 pm »
I have a 77 k10 that has a turbo350 with a np203 that i think has been converted  sence it has manual locking hubs in the front. The problem is, is when i try to shift the trans case it is hard to move but when i shift it you cant really tell which one it is in as if it is kinda loose and can easily slide in another gear , should it do that or should it be firm in  gear like an auto transmissions gears are? When its in 2hi i can gigglee it forward and backwards. Should it do that or should it be tight? Some times when i start my truck and put it in gear(any gear) it is like its in neutral and wont move and i can hear what sounds kinda like a chain "grinding" thats not every loud could that be the shifter in the np203? Any help is appreciated.

Have you crawled under it and looked to see if the linkage is loose?

The NP203 shifter is notorious for being a problem child.

If they get a little wear on them they don't work to get the tcase in gear very well.

The linkage on the transmission? I can gigglee it and trun it by hand. Would the trans case shifter causr my transmission to not go in gear?

If your transfer case is not fully in gear it will not let the truck move no matter what gear the transmission is in.
Sometimes instead of being loose an sloppy the issue can be grease and gunk built up around the linkage, that and lack of use combined can make it not go into gear fully.

Give me a long enough lever and a place to stand, and I shall move the earth or break this bolt...Whatever, just hold my beer!
