Stay out of my yard...
« on: January 17, 2013, 10:29:16 am »
So i describe my location as the mansion in the trailer park. We live in a small condo village surrounded by government funded(me & you funded) housing. well I have found people in my back yard on several occasions in the last few weeks. I'm sure it has happened more but this time they got too brave. I told my wife that after christmass we will probably get more trying to see what kind of goodies we got for christmass....as luck would have it it happened 3 times the next week.

Now I don't want to physicallyharm (kill) anyone, well want porbably isn't the right word because i do want to but I know it's not the best. I have some corabon hollow points, "flying-ashtrays" as I like to call them, and hydrashock in my .45 for just that ocasion.

For now I am going to try escalation of force. Scare tactic is up first. You know how almost everyone has motion activated lights and they were nice prpbably 5-10years ago but now a-days a would be thief is just greatful for the light and know that no one is paying attention. So I decided to add a twist to my motion light.

I started with this cheap thinge seen here from wally world.

But I had a plan in mind. Lights alone almost never scare people. I mean think of a train. Yea, the light is a little intemidating but that sound is un-nerving especially if you are close to it. So that lead me to this.

I ordered a new horn for my truck (wolo badboy) and I tok one of the oe's and a ac/dc converter and started making noise... it sounds sooo much louder than it ever did on the truck. All I have to do is weather prro it and we will be in business. This will also give me a chance to get outside with my "ashtray" launcher for positive re-enforcement.

Of course you realize that every time you walk into your back yard at night you're going to wake the neighbors.  In my experience a little wind moving branches will also activate the motion sensor.  And, a possum, cat or dog might set it off, as well.  You might just end up with upset neighbors who would like nothing better than to see you robbed as revenge, in the end.  A horn would be more effective in the country.

You might be farther ahead by organizing an active Neighborhood Watch and establish a rapport with local authorities.  May not be as satisfying as whacking a perp, but legal and effective if you can keep everyone interested with regular meetings and neighborhood events.  My 2¢.

I hear ya BD I'm placing it on the side of the house where there are no bushes, trees. I'm sure i won't keep it forever but for my entertainment purposes for the time being it's meeting my needs. I am however the neighborhood watch. And yes it's not fun especialy since it's cold and makes my knee hurt walking up and down the street. I set it up to plug into my back pordh light so I can turn it off and on with a switch it also has a light sensor on it so day time won't be a problem. we will see. I really want to do the neighborhood watch thing but until someone else around here gets pissed enough to want it too im all by myself.   But wishing I still lived in the country...then I'd hook it up to an actual air horn and my compressor.

Need to set up a video camera along with it. Then we can all see the dirtbag jump out of his skin!

The old buck up the street where I grew up had a problem with some kids going in his barn stealing gas etc. He tried locking the barn up but they would just rip the lock off, kick the door in etc. He was friends with my dad, and neither one of them took any crap from nobody. I don't remember exactly how he had it set up. But he had an old leaf spring pulled back with a rope, and set a trip in the doorway so if you opened the door and walked in you got whacked in the shins / knees with a leaf spring! After he set it up it was only a matter of about 24 hours that he found it set off. The next Monday at school one of the older kids from the same part of town was limping around school. Heard from the grapevine that the old man was waiting for him in the barn and whacked him with a ball bat! Over the next few years he got several kids that tried to get in.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

I knew the camera thing would be suggested and I'm going to try my best redneck low buck approach to it but first I gotta get a cheap camera....and no not a game camera those things are expencive..I'm thinking a web cam with a usb lead and motion activation. That should do the trick.

Remember the days when the kids would take a twig and "set" horns around halloween? An old buck up the street parked his car where it was easy to get to, left the window down and had an extension cord wired to his horn ring. After that he didnt have any problems! Theres always more than one way to skin a cat!
