TPI on a 350/260h.p. goodwrench motor
« on: January 23, 2013, 06:57:57 pm »
Anyone have any experience running a TPI set up on a Goodwrenh 350/260h.p. crate motor?
My 81 stepside has a TPI system that is set up as follows: mass airflow set up from 86 vette with perimeter bolt base, painless wiring harness, and a stock computer. All the injectors, relays, and sensors were replaced with new gm parts when the truck was restored 10+ years/2k miles ago.
I blew up the S.B. 400 a few years ago and the truck has been in storage since.
I'm thinking a 350/260 crate motor would be an easy way to get the truck back on the road.

What do you expect to be the issue fitz? Whether or not the motor will be enough for your 81 or whether or not it will perform with your current tpi?

Give me a long enough lever and a place to stand, and I shall move the earth or break this bolt...Whatever, just hold my beer!

Just wondering how the computer will deal with a low compression motor. Factory TPI motors (both 305 and 350's) had around 9.3-9.5 compression ratio. The goodwrench motor claims to have 8.5 compression (and some articles put it closer to 8.2).
I'm not expecting killer performance, just want it to run without throwing  computer codes.
Thanks

should run just fine with it.  The iron head TPI motors didn't have high compression if I remember correctly.

actually it depends, the alu headed vettes only had 58cc chambers but the F bodies had 64s and 91/92 had flat top pistons. In all, they had a higher CR than 8.5.  I think it was around 9.3 for the non flat tops and a tad higher for the flat tops. the vettes had around 10.2 or thereabout
