Tremec 6 spd

Hello folks - been awhile since I posted on here - been busy with my old flatty stuff for some months/yrs...
maybe someone has done what I'm about too...
Tremec 6 speed going in where the 700R4 was in the 85 shorty... aka: oldredtruck.
got all my stuff -gearbox, blowshield, flywheel, linkages, pedals etc and so on...
I run a bench seat - it's real nice/redone when I redid my truck and I'd like to keep it - will a Hurst like say Comp Plus shifter work w/o modifying or recessing the seat? ( I get the feeling that the  shifter exits the tranny further back than a T10 or M21/22 making me have to do some work or creative engineering...)
best answer gets dibs on a schweet  Hughes built 700 with about 2000 miles on it --- for the right money of course... ;)

    Can not answer your question, but am real interested on your build.  Hopefully you document everything and share so we can learn too.   ;D

need info on the steering column etc... how will this affect the starter switch - etc...  do I gotta swap in an entire new column - I'm thinking there's more to it than just deleting the auto gear selector handle...

They offer aftermarket offsets for the Tremec T56 transmissions.  Not sure how much offset you need but there is only one "area" for the factory shifter to be located, so you have maybe a 4" differentation.  Hurst has kits that will put the shifter where it belongs in F-bodies, but my M22, was too close to the seat with a bench, but I ran buckets.  Buddy ran a M21 and had to notch his seat.

If you want the column to look factory you have to get a manual column, and there weren't that many made with tilts...

The trans on the t56 has 3 locations (at least Keisler can move it -  got this one from Keisler engineering and had it moved before I rec'd it) they move the shifter forward about 10 inches - but can move it just 4" if so desired... and trust me I measured the location desired more than once! LOL
I was thinking on the column about just swapping the bowl out for a std trans one?... if not - I wanna keep my tilt - so I'll be making some sorta cover on the slip roller then...and try not to make it look like some hillbilly like me did it...or maybe that truck parts place  has column parts...and not just 3 on the tree ones! LOL

I had just a offset problem on my last project, pulled the shifter quick trip to neighborhood machine shop cut and welded (under the boot) clearance problem solved.

Keilser has a setup that is different that others, they should be able to help you with the location.

The starter switch should work just fine, just connect a clutch safety switch in place of the nuetral safety switch on the 700r, wich is mounted at the bottom of the collumn and do the same for the reverse light switch.

posted about this awhile back - finally decided to start doing it.
Have the master cylinder and reservoir mounted - also used a clutch/brake pedal setup from a 1979 but modified my old large brake pedal to keep the switches the same location and fabbed a clevis for the clutch pedal to engage the clutch master cylinder. ( basically used the 79 pedal hanger and the 79 clutch pedal and fabricated a few required mods unique to this situation)
Then later this weekend I am going to go ahead and remove the automatic and stab in the Tremec...and then onto getting the drive shaft work done. I'm taking pics as I go - I'll put em' on here as I get time...

 Bellhousing /flywheel runout spec is .005 max allowed-  we're at .000 - because it had to be perfect!
