Hey there, I'm Tom from Oregon. I just stepped into the wild & wooley world of old school chevy pickups. I just picked up an '85 GMC K1500 4x4, named her Blue Belle (first vehicle I've ever wanted to name, including my motorcycles). She's a regular cab Sierra edition with a 350 (with a 70's iron block, according to the PO), Holley Performance 600 4 barrel carb (new), auto tranny with a quick shift kit (extra clutch plate I'm told), Flowmaster exhaust, & redone 12 bolt rear end with higher gearing (according to the PO). There's 169K on the odometer, I have receipts for a motor rebuild @60K mi ago. She has a very nice repainted body & matched canopy and I was looking for a classic(ish) rig that could sport a camper. Kind of fit both categories. Accoring to the VIN she's a Canada model. I'm not sure if there's any differences between Canada & US models.
I've driven Chevy pickups for work a few times in my life and always wanted one of my own (yes, I'm know I'm not well). I've never owned a full size pickup and had been having visions of hauling a small camper up to the mountains, down to the desert or out to the coast for some adventurous vacations. And I just love driving a big piece of Flint, Michigan iron with a 350, the most classic of motors in my opinion. She's not a daily driver - I'm an HVAC tech and drive my work van to/from work so the crappy gas mileage is tolerable. Any newer truck that I could afford wouldn't be much better and this rig has lot's more character.
I'm stoked to have found this forum and hope y'all can help with info on maintenance, upgrades, & repairs. Glad to be here! Cheers!
