This is the 79 Stepside my son and I just finished. Picture is from Nov. before we finished trim and interior just after we put the bed back on. When he was 17 we were looking for a truck for him, I was thinking smaller 95-99 but all he kept showing me were 71-79 Chevy's and this is what he ended up with. {must have raised him right} Motor was solid, we added electric choke and headers but that was about it under the hood. Body took about 6 months, this was a weekend driveway project. New floor pans and several patches welded in. Went with a black pearl metallic paint. New wood bed we painted barn red with SS trim thinking it would hold up to the weather better. Changed the interior from red to black, most from the salvage yard but spent the money on a new dash. Big sound system. Lift kit, not sure why 19 year old's like the lift but I can hardly get in it. All in all had alot of fun doing it and got to teach him alot along the way in between his school and baseball. Was my first complete restore as well. He finally will get it back this weekend after a year and a half. Will wait awhile but think I may have to do another, use what I learned to do it a little better. Thinking I might look good in a Blazer.

Looks good. Did your son have a hand in the rebuild?

He did, when he was home in the summer. He did all the sanding on the body, stripped the old wood out of the bed. Helped install the headers and some interior. At Thanksgiving he did the plugs, oil change and helped with the tune up as well as installing some of the trim and mounting the tires. I think he learned quite a bit on it and got a little appreciation for what it takes. I think it will help him take care of it a little better since he is invested in it. Not a show truck by any means but for a 19 year old it should be a pretty nice ride for awhile.
He is a long way from when we got it and he asked me how he could tell when the gas tank was full.
