Dash Pad Repair? Or New Dash Pad?

Ok, I have pretty bad dash pad. PO bondo it and sprayed it with bed liner and never sanded it. Would I be ok just sanding it down, and recovering it with some marine grade vinyl? or should I just replace it? I found the new dash pad at Summit Racing which goes for $189. Have yall heard anything about these? If anyone has pictures of their dash recovered and how they did it I would love to know!

Ya I had seen them Zieg. I just dont want to spend that much on something so simple lol If it was something made out of all metal that really gave it a flare I would spend that kind of money on it!

You get what you pay for. This site only sells quality stuff. No experience except some junk that was installed by the previous owner similar to what you are looking at. Not saying theirs is the same as the piece of crap sitting on my truck.

Do a search on those urethane dash pads and you will find that most folks are unhappy with them--complaints that they are too floppy and don't lay flat when installed--that said, I've never actually seen one. Those dash covers on this site when properly done are really hard to tell from the real thing, and I have seen those installed; you might have to sand down your dash a bit. The best current option imo is the vinyl dash pad sold on this site, although they cost a bit more. They are the closest you'll get to a factory dash.

When I had my truck painted in the mid 80's, the guy that painted it did this to my dash as an experiment to see if he could paint woodgrain. The next one he did, he used blues and greys, and it looks like marble. I know that doesn't really answer any of your questions; Something similar could likely be done to your existing dash, though.

I bought a dash for my 83 K10 from Summit Racing. It did not fit Good at all. Very dissatisfied with it.

I'm re-doing an old dash pad so I can use it as a mold for a carbon-fiber one i'll be making soon.
It's pretty cracked, what did you use to fill and smooth the cracks out? I don't care about appearance as I just need the pad to have good shape to it.

I used bondo. Worked really well. I know others have used expanding foam but with bondo you can sand and smooth it out. I think that would work best with what your planning on doing
