Swapping out gears in a 10 bolt questions?!

Got a buddy wanting to swap gears in his 10 bolt he currently has 2.72 in a posi trac carrier, he has a rearend that has 3.42 with an open carrier that he wants to swap gears only. Questions are will the 3.42 gears work with the 2.72 carrier and will the 3.42s be noticed over the 2.72s? Thanks

     Are you asking will the 3.42 gears will go with the possi-track, or can he just take out the 2.72 possi and install the 3.42 open gear set ?

Will the 3.42 go with the posi unit that has the 2.72 or will a new carrier need bought

If the carriers are the same size, such as 8.5 compatible , then yes the gears will swap with no problem. Will there be a noticeable difference, yes, very much so.
