Need help with paint

I need to figure out what color this paint is. I know it is a factory color because I seen it around here and there. But maybe they didn't use the EXACT factory stuff because the pic looks way better than the stock paint jobs I have seen. I don't know. Looks like a dark blue and a light blue but what are the codes? And where do I buy that textured black trim?

     Trying to guess the paint code from a picture is like trying to guess the grains of sand on a beach.  You can come close to the color by showing someone who works everyday with mixing paint maybe, but I bet they will say the same thing I just said.  If you seen it around a couple of times, maybe ask the owner what he used to paint the truck.

Isn't that a factory color though? You think that the body shop will atleast be able to get it real darn close?

If you are wanting to know exactly what those colors are you will have to talk to the owner, if you want to know the paint codes for the factory, that is a different story.

Ok in your opinion do you think that the owner of that truck was at least trying to imitate factory colors?

Light blue metallic is the lighter color. And I believe indigo blue metallic is the darker color.

Both are standard paint colors for the 84~87 C/K series.

Do a google search, that should turn up paint codes.

The light Blue color looks like the original Code 21 wa7470, the dark Blue looks like Code 29 wa7349. The reason it looks "way better than stock paintjobs" is that the original was not Clearcoated & applied for commercial use, not hand done by a professional with much care as to blocking the primer, ect. & then hours of sanding & buffing after the paint was applied which the truck in the photo has likely had.
The Black molding is something Chris here can likely get or can be purchased @ any autobody supply store. Lorne

Thank you. I found the molding on the shelf at Oreillys. How much do you think that such a paint job would cost? Minus the inside of the bed. I have $2,500 set aside for a paint job.

Paint and primer alone was $1,200.00 when I painted my '77.

If your truck doesn't need body work you can probably get by for $2,500.00. Are you doing the work yourself? Most body shops that I know won't touch a paint job if someone else has started the body work.

If your truck needs body work the job could run into the $5,000.00 range for a quality job. 10 years ago my Blazer was wrecked. It needed one rear quarter panel, and the driver's rear door replaced. Add paint at the repair location and that job was $3,500.00.

I won't be doing any of the work myself. Both my doors have some small dents, but they're plentiful. The bed does have some dents and deep scratches. And yeah, there are two deep, but small, bad dents in the bed. Beyond that all is well other than the paint from 1987. To me, all of this just says a slide hammer and some bondo. Not over $2,500 imho. Then again, with everything going up in price pretty rapidly these days, I certainly wouldn't doubt it.

Maybe it would be cheaper to just get two undamaged doors and an undamaged bed from the junkyard?

If you are not doing any of the work yourself and you want it to look like that expect to spend over $3500, and based on that picture, expect more if you plan to duplicate it.

But no, I don't want to duplicate that truck all the way. I won't be doing the inside of the bed. An I certainly won't be doing that weird wheel well thing he did. Or the lowering. The only thing I want is the paint on the outside to look just like his. Do you think there is a hint of pearl in the light blue color? Hard to tell.

Finally found a body shop that says they can duplicate the look of that paint for $3,000. Had them send me a picture of their work and it looks pretty good. Hopefully it turns out well if so I'll post up before and after pictures.
