Try turning it over with a breaker bar first and if it feels good then you will probably be o.k. I would also prime the oiling system before you try to start it. You can get a priming tool from Summit. It fits on a drill and you are turning the oil pump and looking for good pressure and making sure oil gets to the top end. Remove the valve covers and make sure each rocker is getting oil, it will come out the end of the pushrod.
If no gas has been in the carb then you will probably be ok there as well.

Has it ever been ran? pull the plugs and check the condition of the plugs. If they look good spray some PB Blaster or WD40 in it and see if itwill turn over with a pull bar. If you want to prime it that is fine, but I wouldn't pull it apart to check. Just make sure you get oil pressure to the gauge. Check for Fuel Air and spark and try to crank it.

Good article on starting engines that have sat for awhile.
