No cab lights

so i've had this problem since i have had the truck(1983 k10) but i cant figure out what is going on. and i did get into a little bit of a discussion with you guys in my last thread, but i cant figure it out so i decided to make one directly for it. So now what my issue is that when i turn on my lights everything works exept for anything that has to do with the inside of the cab, so no instrument panel no courtasy lights either. all of the headlights work and my tail/park work. my dome light also works. I have been through everything that i can find and i cant seem to find anything that is an issue. i beleived i checked the right grounds since it was the only ones i could find( they were behind the drivers kick panel) and they look good. and i also cant find any opens wires that have anything to do with the lights. and i do have a aftermarket radio and i cut all power to it and still couldnt get the fuse to quit blowing. I should also mention that i pulled all my fuses out one at a time until the inst. panel quit blowing and it stoped at the tail/crtsy lights. So why would i stop shorting out there and also where are my all of my crtsy lights at to make sure i checked them all. thanks

The wire that runs up the piller to the roof lights could be shorted. that wire plugs in seperately into the headlight switch. disconnect it fron the switch and try it, Also the fuse block sometimes has extra lights pluged into the lamps aux port, try the same there. And one other problem area is under the carpet by the sill plate, pull the plate and look under the carpet. There is also a major splice/junction in the main harness behind the inst. cluster, the factory used some duct type tape to cover the splice that could have come off.

which port on the fuse box is it, so what is the label for it so i can find it. and what wires am i looking for under the sill plate? and i tried removing the inst. cluster before but had difficulty before and gave up since i was worried about messing up the spedo. and the mileage so any advice their. thanks

The speedo cable disconnects, there is no way to mess up the odometer.  The circuit should be labled seperately.  I think it is on the upper left hand side of the fuse panel.

When removing cluster it is helpful after unscrewing the cluster to go into the engine compartment and try to push a little "slack" into the speedo cable by trying to push it through the firewall theres a rubber grommet there even if you can get an inch or so it makes it easier to disconnect. Just make sure upon reassembly of speedo cable to cluster, that you then go back to engine compartment and "GENTLY" pull speedo cable slack towards you.
