6 cyl motor missing/spitting - help diagnosing
« on: March 24, 2013, 01:02:04 pm »
not related to our trucks but perhaps an experienced mechanic could advise

1992 Buick century 3.3L 6 cyl  FI
on acceleration from stand still the motor hesitates/spits/misses, once up to speed its ok.
i dont think its the injectors and the plugs and wires are reasonably new. could this be one of the coil packs?

thanks

Bad coil is usually bad period. It doesn't know when the car is up to speed or not. If it causes a misfire its going to misfire all the time.
Why do you think its not injectors?
If you have access to an inferred thermometer let the engine get up to temp. Check each cylinders exhaust temp. They should all be very close. If you have one cooler start there.
Pull the plugs, the cool one should be black, and maybe wet compared to the others.
Switch it with another cylinder, recheck the temps etc.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
