my driver's side brake light and rear turn signal quit working. checked the bulb and it looked good, but did change it out. now i have my flasher, but still no brake light.
what would be my next step to look at?

Usually if the flasher works on all 4 corners the turn signal switch in the column is shot or at least dirty.

just checked and all of the hazards are working, so. if i am reading this correctly, it is more than likely the turn signal switch in the column? just want to confirm this before i tore her apart.
