First Truck 1979 C-10 Silverado Big 10
« on: March 26, 2013, 01:16:31 pm »
This is my first post on this forum. My names Joe I'm 17 and finally purchased my first truck. It is a 1979 1/2 Ton "Big 10" with the Silverado trim package. The truck is in pretty good shape for being an outdoor Missouri country truck. It has 51,5XX original miles. It is all stock with some GM options. 350 Engine with what I believe to be a 350 transmition. Truck drives perfectly straight with great handling steering and brakes. This truck is in really good shape mechanically. This is a Missouri truck. The entire undercarrige is coated in surface rust. The Passenger side front fender is rusted through badly in multiple places. Both cab corners are shot. Driver's side rocker is pretty bad. Bottoms of doors have small amount of rust that shouldn't be too terribly difficult to patch up. The paint is not original and is pretty "country" It looks like it was rolled on from the paint that got on some trim. Truck was origionally red. Has very solid bumpers and the smaller tripod mirrors. Has a rubber bedmat and spare tire post in bed. As for the interior it is in pretty good shape. The dash is cracked in many places. It took 4 applications of armourall to restore its color. The plasic on the inside of the doors is sunrotted and the carpeting is in good shape, but is falling apart on the driver's side. There is a water problem in the cab. After heavy rain and driving in the rain for a short period of time water had accumulated under the carpeting. From what Ive heard it is either coming through the firewall or from under the back of the hood. Electric locks, manual windows. This thing has a pretty awesome bench seat. I am not sure if it is stock, a dealer add-on, or aftermarket. The best part about this truck is that I paid $2000.

In the pictures I have included a pic of under the carpet

This Picture is from the day I bought the truck

They make highway driving great. I have seen suburbans before with massive tripod mirrors. The middle leg went down to the bottom of the door and the mirrors themselves were huge. GM has had some pretty cool addons over the years.

Wecome from Texas!  Congratulations on the truck, it looks nice.  Very good for a first vehicle.  Lots of good information on here.  Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Welcome from California.  If you would not have listed the problems, we would have never of know from the pics.
