1987 C-10 350 Has strong gas smell while running
« on: March 28, 2013, 07:13:32 am »
All,

I recently did some performance mods on my stock 350 TBI.  I went from the stock swirl port cylinder heads (76cc) to a pair of cast iron Engine Quest 903 Votec Hybrid Marine cylinder heads (64cc).  I also replaced the OEM intake manifold with a Edelbrock TBI Performer, and I swapped out the lazy stock cam for a Lunati Voodoo Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam #10120701:

•Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 256/262
•Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 213/219
•Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .454/.468
•LSA/ICL: 112/108
•Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
•RPM Range: 1000-5500

The cam has a slightly noticeable idle and gobs of torque.  I also had a custom chip burned for my setup by TBIChips.  The truck runs well, overall.  My only complaint is that is smells profusely of gasoline when it runs.  I mean if I take the truck for a drive, I can smell the exhaust fumes on my clothes when I come inside my house.  Is there some kind of sensor or fuel mixture screw (like on traditional carburetors) that can be adjusted to fix this?

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like its running extremely rich. Have you talked to TBI chips and explained your problem? I would start there.
