Problems finding a part.
« on: March 29, 2013, 09:14:37 am »
Hey, I have a 1986 C10 with what I believe is a 4.3L 262 V6 and it is missing a part I cant seem to find for the life of me! The piece has what appears to be two lines and an electrical connector going into it. When I got the truck it had it then my mechanic took it off and lost it and hes has no idea what it is either  :(. Also since the part has gone missing the truck high revs like crazy and is not safely driveable. (sorry for the crappy picture, its the only one I have)

Hard to tell from the picture.  Can you describe where the vacuum hoses go?  I have a Chiltons manual that has all the driveability and emissions controls diagram for all the engine applications (sticker under the hood that tells where the vacuum lines go).  It has the name of the associated part, maybe we can determine what you need that way.  I have a 1986 C10 with a 4.3L but mine is stick, don't know if I have that part or not...

Looks like an EGR solenoid.

The two vaccum lines go to the choke and the throttle I believe.

Your looking for the throttle kicker solenoid.  It controls vacuum signal to the idle speed control (ISC), a vacuum actuator/motor, on the left side of the carburetor.  The hose connections to the solenoid are manifold vacuum and the ISC actuator.  The solenoid is controlled by the ECM.  And, you are correct, that is a 4.3L-V6 engine.  To my knowledge ISC was used for California emissions on non-A/C equipped V6s, only.  Check with a local Chev/GMC dealer for a part number (P/N) and have them run it on their national locator network for a dealer that might have NOS.  Otherwise, Google the P/N.
