is it rare to have a factory tach where normally u would have a fuel gauge? and I mean the big gauge beside the speedo. I have had several silverados and none with this setup, just this one 83 c10. curious!

A factory tach is not exactly rare, but it isn't real common either.  They are very commonly swapped into trucks that did not have a factory tach.

I may be wrong, but based off the lettering on your tach/speedo, I think the tach in your photo is  from a late 70's GMC/Chevy truck.

you would also need the circuit board behind the cluster to match and wire harness to match i think

that's why I thought mine was factory because it has all that but I guess its easy to buy and install.

I just did this.  Found an '80 cluster, bought a new circuit sheet for the back (factory tach version) and tach wiring harness.  The factory tach has nothing to do with the circuit sheet on back of cluster.  The wiring harness for it is 3 wires, ground/12v power/distributor.  That's it.

Buy a new gas gauge (small style) and big tach...you'll be set.

That didn't come in your truck, 1983 trucks had a 85mph speedo and completely different font.  That is a 1978-1979 cluster.

I want to do this to my 75 so I get the tach the harness and the small fuel gauge and put the fuel gauge where the clock is. Do I still need the circuit board or can I just take the fuel gauge wiring and hook it up to the small fuel gauge

You can add the tach and add a small fuel gauge.  You just have to wire the fuel gauge from the circuit board (not really a board more like a plastic foil).  The tach has its own wiring and does not connect to the circuit board.  Check out my notes in this post, page 2, for some pics of how the tach fits in a non-tach dash.  http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php/topic,25150.15.html
