Coolant Temperature Sender
« on: April 09, 2013, 05:30:40 pm »
Stupid question. Where is the coolant temperature sending unit at on the engine? 73 c20 350/350. Guage usually reads low. Today it showed normal operating temp. That worried me so I went and bought a laser thermometer. The highest temp I can find on the block is 210. exhaust manifold peaked at around 400. Anyway new sensor was $10 bucks. I know it's an ass backwards way of doing things but I'm gonna change it out if I can find it. Not in chiltons that I saw.

On my 79 it is on the driver side between 1 and 3 cylinder plug.

yes but its  a coolant temp switch.
Switch

with gauge
or

with light
the sensor is for the emc which you shouldn't have one goes usally in the thermostat housing unit

I said both, but yeah it's a switch. Thanks for the pics, I thought I had the wrong thing. Figured the switch would be for a light but evidently autozone got it right.

I have both of those .  The nail head one is on the driver side between 1 and 3 cylinders.  The flat head one is on passanger side rear of block
