Digital rear view mirror
« on: April 15, 2013, 08:17:01 pm »
I'm sure this has been done before, but I wanted to show off my digital rear view.  It's the one feature I miss from my dodge...may it rest in pieces.  It's out of a junk yard Buick or something from the late 90's I think...age and model doesn't really matter.  Temp sensor is mounted i front of my radiator on a support.  Temp & compass...just nice to have and accurate as it gets.

Pigtail for mirror (plugs into mirror)/temp sensor (you could go buy one for about any GM product...my '04 Tahoe has the same mirror  :)  and then you need the sensor pigtail.  You can find this setup on eBay for less than $60 or in your local junkyard.

Technically its called a Gentex 177 commonly found in 2000-2004 trucks, but was in many other products as well.

Certain ones rely on signal from ecm To update the compass directions ( the head consoles use them too.) I built a console for my truck that had temp and direction in it.

The beauty if this setup is that the compass sensor is internal...just had to drive in a circle the first time it fired up, to calibrate.
