new wheel project...

So it all started with a lift that I have yet to install. which lead me to craigs list looking for wheels so I picked some Mickey Thompson 15x10.5's. They are in decent shape especially considering their age. I decided to try my hand at making them look better and at first thought I would like the brushed aluminum look. Well that passed after I did a test spot with some compound.

Here is where I started stripping off the protective coat an the beginning stages of a brushed aluminum look. And them the polishing...and a little more  and a little more. The third picture will show you how the originls looked and what the polished will look like but I'm not even done so I cant wait to see how good they are going to look when I am. Let alone when they are actually wrapped in rubber and posted under the big blue air plow.....

Now of course I didn't start this thread to show yall what I'm doing. There's always a question. What can I use to protect them once I am done polishing them. I'd prefer it to be cheap but I'd imagine I may be asking for too much. I wanted to try a clear coat but I'm not sure if it would work as well as I think/hope it would.

I wouldn't clear coat them. Mothers, Meguires etc all make metal polishes that will work just fine protecting against oxidation.  Get one of those powerball drill mounted polishers and it'll make life easier. You'll have to polish them once or twice a year to keep them looking good.

a question on those powerball's is there a place where i can get them cheaper? at my walmart there 25$  for just the foam ball :/

oh and i use the Meguires "hot rod" chrome polish on my rims, they work pretty good!

Ya know I didn't think about those polishes having protectant in them. Looks like those will be my finishing polishes once I finish these 3 stages on all four. Thank man. but still open to any other suggestions

Oh and you don't need no stinkin ball. Do you have a drill or even better a die grinder? If so them get a $12 dollar polishing wheel and instead of using the clay polishes use the Mequires.
