Front bias-ply tires
« on: June 07, 2013, 11:18:49 am »
Hi everyone, I'm prostreeting my 84 C10 and have 33 x 21.50 x 15 Mickey Thompsons' going on the back, bias-ply, and I'm not sure what to go with on the front. I was looking at F70-15's because I want to travel on the highway and other roads' and not worry about handling issues' if I went with a front runner of the same make MT's. They would be great for a straight run, but maybe not so good for hiway traveling. Also I want to keep a slight rake to the truck, not lowered all the way around, but at the same time put a front tire on that fills' that large wheel well up nicely, know what I mean? Any suggestions as to size and make, or any pictures' would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and have a great day. Raining here pretty good on the east coast.

From past experience you don't want to mix bias ply and radials.  Bias plies in front tend to follow cracks unless you have an experienced alignment man using older pre-radial alignment specs you won't like the way your truck drives.  Quite a few years ago I ran radials in front and bias snow tires in back and hit an icy bridge.  I can't remember how many times I went around but kept going without hitting a thing.  I changed the tires as soon as I got home.  My $.02

Mixing bias and radials is a "no-no"....

Thanks, but I didn't say anything about mixing radials with bias-ply. I'm looking at F70-15 bias-ply wide ovals. Just wondering if anyone has used them, how they look on the truck, or if there is anything else that would work better considering the wide opening of a 84 C10, and the weight of the front, mine has a 454 big block in it. Just wondering...thanks again.

Am I understanding you're going w/ 33" rears?  If so, I would go w/ an L78-15 up front.  They will carry that 454 and still give you the rake you desire and more adequately fill the wheel well.  Not sure what the diameter of the L78-15 is but prolly around 29".  Don't know if they make L78-15 bias ply tires anymore, though.
