Gettin Some Air Under Old Blue...
« on: June 16, 2013, 11:52:37 pm »
So as some of you know I have had this Lift for a few months and I finally got around to starting PROJECT LIFT!!
No real problems except at full droop there is a little contact with the spring and passenger  exhaust. Other than that and 26 years of rust.. so far so good but I started with the easy side first. I did have a little help thanks to my youngest son. He is all about taking things apart or at least handing me tools to watch me take things apart.

It took most of the night to get all the rust off and prepped for paint but just like everything else I plan on doing this once, the right way. The only issue was the exhaust but the new one will fix this for good.

So paint is dry enough and I made some more progress this morning. All the is left on the rear is torqueing the U-bolts and installing the shocks. I did however drive it down the street and no shocks makes it entertaining. Oh and Lock-tite on everything!!! Then it is time for the front. I already prepped so after torqueing the rear and hanging the shocks I can tear into it...with I had an extra set of hands, and feet!

Got a few hours to work on Old Blue this after noon after chasing down some new bolts for the front spring hangers. Finished the shocks on the rear and still need to torque them and got the front springs hanging and steering arm on. But here are a few pics of where I'm at now.

Front left and right sides. With all this room under here is makes these 10 bolts look so small.

Almost at the actual ride height. I'm going to try and finish tonight. hopefully!! Worse case I will torque everything tomorrow. I just hope I don't break my back on these roads.

Still got the sway bar drop (don't plan on rough off roading so I doubt it's going to limit me if it does I will get a quick disconnect), T-case drop, put my slip yoke back together, front shocks and torque checks. Despite not having anyone helping aside from two floor jacks and 3 sets of jack stands, it really hasn't been that bad.

I'm eagerly waiting to see the final product.  However, I'm kinda digging the lifted rear and stock front...  ;)

How much lift are you putting in?  4"?  Transfer-case drop = Yuck and worse front driveline angles!  Don't forget to check your slip-yoke engagement.  You might need to lengthen your driveshafts.

Finally, done with the lift. Looks a lot better and when I am done with the wheels and get new tires for them it will look 100% better. But here are a few more pics. Not as bad as I thought it would be doing it by myself.

Thanks for the heads up...but so far everything checks out good. I think that if I went any higher then I would need to do slip yoke eliminator on the np208 but I've got plenty of room front and rear. Right now my only issue is the grease cap scrapper ring on the front drive shaft.. the old one is in multiple pieces and I gotta find a new one.

you dont need to change anything with only 4", you dont have to change anything with 6" maybe the front drive shaft length but that aint much once you go over 6 is when you have to think about everything else
