What are the symptoms of a bad fule filter? Also, do you need a special wrench to get at the filter? On a qjet.

A clogged fuel filter will vary based on the degree of clogging.  Mine acted fine if I drove it like I had an egg between my foot and the go pedal.  If I tried to get on it or accelerated faster it would bog and buck.  This happened to me about 50 miles from home pulling a trailer with a truck on it.  As far as tools it takes a 5/8" line wrench to get the fuel line off and a 1" wrench to hold the fuel filter housing on the q-jet

Regardless get rid of that junk bronze filter and put an good inline filter on it or sooner or later you'll end up stranded somewhere, happened to me twice first time I was lucky someone stopped and I told him what happened, he looked and saw the Q-jet and said the filter is plugged they're junk throw it away, sure thing took it out put the hose back on and everything was fine, so I put a new one in(didn't sink in the first time)few hundred miles later same thing happened again, put an inline filter on no more problems..

just a question those "crappy" filters if they clog so often that means there is a lot of crap in your tank/fuel lines and this filter is doing its job and preventing it from reaching your carb, how is this bad? if you put a different filter on there the only way it would be better if it was as restrictive and let those small parts threw. then you will might be rebuilding your carb. now if you have one that is just as restrictive but more surface area, go for it.

Yeah, but they are tiny and they're just about as bad as the bronze ones, put a good inline and service it regularly and you won't have any problems.
