Tranny Going?

I noticed something different while driving my 87 this week. It has started what seems like it has to wind up to get going.It just like it has to have higher rpms to get moving.Is this start of problems on the horizon ?Thanks

Check the transmission fluid level, color and smell.

Sounds like lack of apply pressure, check fluid level first thing, if it's up and fluid is red put a gauge on the pressure port(the little pipe plug on the side of the case all by it's lonesome), keep driving it like it is and it will cook clutches.

neutral, brakes applied, 1k rpm: 55-70 psi
D, idle (idle "set to spec"): 60-85
D, brakes applied, 1k rpm: 60-90
Intermediate or lo, brakes
applied, engine at 1k rpm: 135-160
R, brakes applied, 1k rpm: 95-150
D, brakes applied, 1k rpm,
downshift switch activated: 90-110

Checked fluid, level good , no burnt smell, red/brown color . Could it be slipping?Thanks

Red/brown is not good should be bright red, it's probably old fluid and getting burnt from slipping, it's time to freshen it up before you end up ruining it completely and it'll cost a bunch then.

like art said change the fluid and replace one quart of trans fluid with Lucas transmission stop leak.

To change the fluid the converter needs to be drained there's more fluid in the converter than the pan, and stop leak is just a temporary band-aid for any leaks and you have to be careful not to use one that has solvents because solvents deteriorate rubber. The only way to do this right is to freshen it up.

74 it also has stop slip in it. my moms 98 e150 was slipping forgot the millage wasnt that high. but this was idk 10 yrs ago but it was slipping when changing gears did a fluid change "pan only" not a flush, added the Lucas and she still has the transmission with no problems running to this day. i dont know if just the couple qrts in the pan did the trick or the stop leak. either way i swear to this and use it all the time.

To each their own I guess, but I learned a long time ago the hard way that band-aids bite ya sooner or later, I'll stick to doing it "right"....

x2 on lucas transmission fix That stuff kept my old ford transmission alive well past its prime. I use it everytime I change the transmission fluid on anything.

but if a band-aid gets you 200k or more out of a transmission then i dont think the band-aid popped off and left moms van stranded. even if you do flush it i wouldn't hesitate to add the lucas. i think the things that also kill rubber is extreme heat. just like some people say tire care stuff will dry rot tires. in no way would a company put anything in a product that would kill rubber it would be for bad pr
