85 C3500 New Clutch

Ok I have a 85 GMC C3500 dually with the 454. I just replaced the clutch, and when I put the shifter back into the transmission, it doesn't want to move anywhere, it doesn't matter if it is running or not, it will not move. I started the truck and noticed that it was spinning the output shaft, (I don't have the driveshaft reconnected yet.) So it has to be in gear, it just wont go back into neutral. Any advice or tip would be greatly appreciated.

one question why you remove the shifter to replace the clutch? or are you talking about the clutch fork? also the yokes moving i have a sm456 and i noticed even when im just sitting still and the shifter is in neutral if i let off the clutch the front yoke will spin. this is with the hubs unlock so its not like its trying to turn the tires. and if they where locked it wouldnt turn them anyway

Are you sure that the transmission was in neutral before you removed the shifter? It could be that it was in gear, even inadvertently, when you got the shifter removed. You might remove the shifter and double check everything, it may be that you need to pop the shift rails back into neutral and then reassemble.

Thanks for the replies, first off, you need to remove the shifter to remove the transmission to change a clutch. Secondly, (Jason S) Thanks for your reply, I worked with it a little bit and got the shifter in the way it needed to go. Were back on the road again!
