1987 Silverado 4x4 - My new truck!
Been a while since I've been this forum, just busy all the time. Was married in May, that's keeping me busy. More TV work than ever and more new how-to videos and a couple of new how-to books in the works. In June I blew out the transmission in my 1975 Jimmy and didn't feel like doing all the work it takes to either drop the Transfercase and transmission from below or remove the engine from above to fix the transmission. So the new wife talked me into getting a new truck and even found it for me.
This is a 1987 Chevy Silverado 4x4. The truck has a 350 small block Chevy engine all rebuilt with a 700R4 Transmission, rebuilt with a shift kit and a billet torque converter. Transfercase is a NP208. It has a 1-ton rear axle with 4:88 gears with disc brakes and a 3/4 ton front axle, 4:88 gears and disc brakes. 40" Toyo Tires are RBP 20" custom wheels. She has a 12" Skyjacker Lift Kit and a new paint and interior. It's a really nice truck and runs and drives great.
The only pictures I have of it are when we did the extreme makeover to the paint. The truck has a brand new paint job but whoever did the buff-out really hacked it up. I usually am in charge of doing extreme makeovers on other people's cars but this time we did one for my own rig.
Here's before... the entire paint job was swirled out AND IT'S BRAND NEW!
These are holograms caused by the misuse of a rotary buffer...
Here's after....
I can't stand the 350 small block and I don't know anything about the TBI fuel system. I have already had Dana Sniff build me up a Turbo 400 Short Shaft transmission, I still have the Dodge NP203 Transfercase which I'm going to put into this truck. I sold the Jimmy to my buddy Dave who wanted the axles but I kept the 454 engine and accessories, so after I get the 454 all rebuilt I'm going to remove the small block and current running gear in install the good stuff.
Here's the Turbo 400...
Here's the t-case, it's actually cleaned up and painted now...
And right before I blew up the 700R4 I cleaned up the 454. It still runs great but I'm going to freshen it up with new rings and bearings before putting it into the Silverado.
Much better...
Down the road I'm going to add a much needed ORD Rear Spring Shackle Flip and a roll bar, but that's about it. Maybe a drop hitch so I can pull a boat.
What do you guys think?
