Anybody have any recommendations for stereos and speakers that pack a lot of bass?

what ever can fit behind your seat. i had to build my own box and use subs out of a home theater system, because those were the only ones shallow enough i could find with out paying through the roof for them.

4 8's will fit behind the seat and that will shake the cab nicely. They are shallow enough to not have to move your seat (much) if you mount them low in the sub box and you get a nice amount of cone area. Build the box ported too, not sealed if you are looking for max output. JL and Pioneer also make shallow-depth subs that aren't too pricey.

I have the pioneer behind the seat 10 inch shallow sub box with a 200 watt blaupunk <sp> mono amp that does the job well and will fit be find the set with no problems.  The sub box came from  Walmart for about $150 the amp from crutchfield. I'm going to swap the amp with a pioneer 4 channel model when I put the cab back together.  My plan is to put a modified delco radio back in the disk with an aux connection for an mp3 player to keep the factory look.  I like the actual knobs of the older design radios.  The pioneer amp will take speaker level input.  I can bridge two of the amp channels to drive the sub with a crossover set at about 60hz and use the other two channels to drive 5x7 or 6x9 in the cab corners.  I have a smaller 2 channel amp for 4" drivers in the kick panels, these will be crossed over at about 200 hz or so.  My truck just had AM with the single dash speaker.  My uncle added a RadioShack unit with cassette and surface mounted speakers behind the seat.   I sounded okay for talk radio but had those fake knobs to fit the shaft holes and zero bass.  I actually have two of 10"  pioneer shallow box woofers.  I took one part and put it in a 1/2 cubic foot sealed box for my scion it will shake your kidney stones loose.  It will also work in a ported box too, but the phase shift did not fit my other speakers in the scion and it sounded a little muddy.  If came pick one of these up you want be disappointed.  They are only about 4" deep.

I checked pioneers web site an the model for the 10" is TS-SWX251.  The 12" is TS-SWX310.  I don't know if that is the same model I have or not as I have had mine a couple of years.  I am very happy with them.  The drivers look like big brake drums and are about as heavy!  I took one out of he factory box and made a custom enclosure with the same volume metrics to fit a hatch back car with good results.
