Tach reading... 5000 or 10000?

Good evening all !
I have a 1986 Chevy c10 custom deluxe w/4 on the floor and am in need of a good aftermarket tach ... Can someone recommend what The HIGHEST RPM gauge I should get ... I see a lot of 10000 rpm gauges but have also noticed some stock gauges only read 5000 max rpm .
Thanks !

Unless you built a motor to go 10k I don't think you will go over 5 on a stock/mild motor. Most the tachs I see do go to 10k but its kind of over kill if you only do 4. Maybe its just me and my driving but even when I'm mudding I think i only reach 4k when I bounce off the roof and hit the gas.

I recently put in a 8k rpm tach. With the way I drive my truck, 3k is about the most I really ever see. To reiterate Irish, 10k is way overkill.

Most stock small Blocks will float the valves at 4,800 so 5,000 is plenty .
