th350 flexplate cover
« on: July 31, 2013, 02:09:00 pm »
I've got a th350 in my 82 sierra k10 and it didn't have a cover over the flexplate and torque converter when I got the truck. I finally found one but am not sure exactly what holds it in place. The tranny has holes down each sides of the front that are tapped for bolts but the holes on the cover line up with smaller holes that don't seem to be. It only lines up with one of the larger tapped holes on the top driver side. Anyone have any ideas? Its not really that important I guess but I'd like to have that stuff protectected from dirt and water.

Sounds like your trans bellhousing is drilled and tapped for a cast aluminum dust cover.  A cast cover slightly increases rigidity of the bell.  Some of the cast covers had supplemental bolt bosses for additional steel braces.  You can probably redrill the bell and use self-tapping 1/4" or 6 mm bolts to secure the steel cover.

That makes sense. The cover ive got now is thin sheet metal. Not sure what it came off of but I got it from a friend that had it laying around.

i think it's attached with self-tapping metal screws--- i will try to get a picture up a.s.a.p.  BTW, i took mine off 7 yrs ago and left it off.  Then again, i never go off road.

i think the TH-350's in 4WDs got the thick cast aluminum covers with braces going to the engine mounts (which means you'll have to remove the engine to install these braces, but i think can install the cover w/out the braces) and the 2WD's got the thin stamped covers.

Can you provide a pic of the bellhousing?
