Column Swap. I got ?s
«

was looking at replacing my column with new bearings but all the misc parts that would be needed would be more expensive than getting a used newer column. question being that i searched and found ill have to swap my wiring over to the newer style and might have to change my intermediate shaft to the newer style but other than that would swaping in an 84 and up column into my 77 be pretty much bolt in or would i have to change alot more over to do this?

i have so many parts in my cab i cant help you with the years. but as long as you grab the intermediate shaft it will bolt right up. i know my pigtail on my steering didnt match what was in the cab. so i had to modify it actually cut some of the plastic out. it fit and had to adjust it just right so everything would work. i dont know the wire layout that would be the only problem i can think of

Don't know when they changed styles to the clamp style from the bolt style. It was around your year 76-78. Do you have the bolt that goes through the shaft?

maybe i lucked out on my swap but you have the high beam switch to rewire and turn signal switch/wipers. but you can swap the steering wheel out of a 94 onto our columns as long as it doesn't have air bags, but i think they should be about the same up to 91 with burbs and blazers idk for sure. looking at a parts mag i see 73-78 can change idk why. i imagine you can make them work but i cant say for sure, nothing physically stopping think the mounts are the same, then you also have to think about the vats system on the newer trucks idk when they started but my 94 doesnt have one but my brothers 88 iroc does. you just the switches that you might have to rewire. so the truth is idk what years you can swap with, most times people use the same column thats the same for certain years so they dont have to rewire anything

Yeah was trying to find a similar year model column for the last few months and can never find one. just gonna have to grab the one out of the 88 and worst case i just steal the parts from it that i need to rebuild the column in the 77. I'll take the chance with 75 bucks on it plus gonna grab the doors from the same truck to throw on the k5
