Greetings from Leadville Colorado!
« on: August 22, 2013, 08:49:03 am »
Hi and thanks for letting me in on the forum. I originally joined because I was looking specifically for information on my '77 q-jet which has pre-75 rods, however I found another forum that better addressed my questions. I purchased a '77 c-30 Scottsdale (the grill says it's a GMC but the Carquest dealer can only locate a Scottsdale under Chevy), with a 454 that only has 46K miles on it. The carb is in really great shape, but does not have the APT screw that would make it easier to adjust. (OR else the screw is located under the cap in the base plate- I'm not sure which yet). Anyhow, after rebuilding the carb I couldn't get the engine to run right until I replaced the plugs and wires. Seems that the engine idled fine, but the wires would not work under load. Now it runs beautiful and the only thing changed is the power piston spring and a .002 smaller jet, though it might need a little finer tuning at some point to compensate for the altitude. (Also, it's strange that I have .026-.031 primary rods, which seem too small for factory settings). Now I just have to figure out how to fix all the lights and am rebuilding the Meyers hydraulic snowplow pump.  I've never plowed snow, but looking forward to giving it a try this winter. The truck has also been converted to a dump truck, which is specifically why I purchased it.

Here she is. Not much of a looker but a sure powerhorse! I didn't realize that I already made a introduction in this same forum, so "hello" back to everybody. I like the way somebody painted the front and rear of the bed. Not sure if it was painted with a brush or sprayed, but does anybody have any idea what kind of paint that might be? I'd really like to paint the wheels and some other rust spots, but don't want to remove the rust down to bare metal, and I seriously doubt that the rust was removed before that paint was applied.

Also, I'd like to get a new hood (this one has an ugly bend in the middle) but junk yards are scarce anymore. What is the best source of locating parts like that on the internet?

Oh, I see that they aren't going to allow me to post a picture without resizing it. My camera view is cracked, so I can't just change the resolution in the camera. Does anybody know of a great, free picture resizer that does not come with malware? All the ones I looked at on download.com come with something extra.

New to Photobucket; not sure if this is going to work but here she goes.../
Nope! I resized the photo to 560x420= 235,000 somethings, which is less than 256K maximum size per photo, but when I tried to upload it, I got the message: "Your file is too large. The maximum attachment size allowed is 1024 KB."

From what little I understand about resizing photos, I need to change the resolution -not the size- and "resolution" is not an option that I can find in Photobucket. I'm looking for a way to just post a link, but not seeing that either.

So I clicked on the IMG link and it says "copied". Lets try this!
I am also into Historic Preservation, so it's appropriate that I acquire this restoration project!

IT WORKED! THANKS! Incidently, that rear cover attached to the gate nearly took my foot off last week! I was opening the gate for the first time to get the 8' snowplow out of the back, but when I disconnected the top latch and began to lower it, the bottom latch (which is going to get drilled/ tapped/ and big washers soon!) came loose and the whole thing turned upside down, and which point the cover thingy fell out and landed on the pavement with a big thud! Luckily - or perhaps because I was just being really careful and standing on the side - that thing didn't land on my foot and break all the bones!
