Wheel/Tire sizing question. Opinions wanted
« on: September 02, 2013, 08:55:07 pm »
I have a 77 c-10 lwb.  Currently stock ride height, but considering 2"/4" drop.   I would like to run corvette/camaro rally wheels with BFG radial t/a's.  I was originally thinking 15x8's (4" backspacing) with 275/60's all the way around, but realized the rear axle is 2" narrower than the front end.   Couldn't find 15x8 with 3" backspacing, so I was thinking that going to a 15x10 in the rear with 4.5" backspacing should just about be right.   Thoughts?  I guess my biggest question is... would the tire profile change much when mounting the same tire on a 15x8 vs. 15x10?  I don't want it to look like I have a shorter tire on the back.  Does that make sense?   Any advice/feedback would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure only the 4x4 had narrower front than rear.  I know my 2wd 'burban is just about exactly even front to rear.  Have you measured?  You could always get some spacers to push out the rear if necessary.

I'm pretty sure the rear is narrower.  I can tell by looking at it from the rear, so I took some rough measurements and appeared to be about 2" overall.  Also, not really interested in the spacer idea.  I've heard too many negatives about that.  Thanks.

I've ran spacers both slip on and bolt on and never had a single issue.  I am totally opposed to staggering wheels, its impractical.  Usually you can run the same wheel/tire combo on both axles.  I say pick either the 8" or 10" and run em all round.

All rear axles were narrow by GM design for steering purposes.
You can mount 275 wide tires on either 8 or 10" with the same tire, I wouldn't go wider than that as it will look strange on the thinner wheel and isn't recommended.

Thanks for the advice.  Still not sure which way to go.  I like the idea of wider tires on the back, but also good having all the same size for rotation purposes.  Decisions, decisions....
