Dash frame? please
« on: September 13, 2013, 06:34:10 pm »
I was wondering of anyone knows how to take out the metal dash frame? Im not really sure what its called. I want to take it out to paint. Do I need to remove the windshield? or are there just more bolts holding it from under the hood? 1985 k10

Trust me, you don't want to remove the frame.  It is spot welded under the windshield gasket about every inch or so.  Just look at what you see and mask a couple of inches above that and go to town.  My $.02

Thanks for the reply! I was wiring in the new dash and it seemed like it would come out easy to make things easier.  I think Ill just leave it in and paint it I guess.

I got excited when I saw the bolts down low holding the lower dash because I wanted to do the same because of a buggered up dash radio cutout.  I wanted the newer style 89-91 radio but once I got into it I knew it was to much for me to handle.  I got the dash out, crudely but the truck I got it from was headed to the crusher anyway.

yup its more work than you would think. not to mention if you break the window or rip the seal it can cost you more than your paint job is worth lol

Well my window is going to come out and be replaced anyway soon.(its cracked) I just thought it would be nice to take it out paint it and give myself more room to wire everything. I bolt a dash bezel out of a suburban and it bolted right in mine. ( the cd player was precut/nicer bezel) Ive bolted it back in and moving on to floors for now. Thanks for the answers fellas!
