Ecm-b fuse problems
« on: September 15, 2013, 09:05:21 pm »
Ok everyone I'm new on here. I have a 87 k10 short fleet. With the 350 tbi truck has always been in family since day 1. Inherited from my granddad when I was 14 and I've been working on a complete restore ever since (6 years) I'm 20 now. Anyway I've never had a single problem with the truck ever. Till a complete weeks ago. I was pulling some fourwheelers home from riding and pulled in the gas station and a split second before it clicked park it died. I tried to restart the truck with no luck at all. Turned over fine just no fire up. And no hum from the fuel pump. I automatically assume the fuel pump went out, seeing as its never had one. Had it pulled home and decided to check some simple things before I went through he hassle of dropping the tank. Pulled a new pump relay off a spare truck I acquired (still nothing) pulled the fuel filter off, extremely dirty so I replaced it thinking it might be clogged and had pressure backed up no allowing the pumps to kick on. Still nothing new, so in a scratching my head effort I started checking fuses. Found the ecmb fuse blown. Replace it truck started and ran perfect. Didn't think anymore else of it till it left me stranded again. Would blow a fuse as soon as I turned the key. Checked every wire I could possibly reach with no luck of any naked wires or loose frame grounds around tanks. Dropped the drivers use tank replaced the fuel pump, no luck, after replaced. Replaced the switch in the dash would hold a fuse till it fired then would pop. Then replaced the selector switch in the frame rails. Truck now holds fuse but will not switch tanks while running like it did before the problems. Key has to be completely turned off then flip switch then restart the truck to keep from blowing the fuse. Just wondering what else I could possibly check to get it like it was originally!? I'm completely lost! Thanks!

your spare truck does it have a ecm? if so swap them and see if it still does it

The ECM B fuse relates to the fuel pump and fuel pump relay.  Check the relay wiring at the firewall for grounds/shorts.
