Grill Paint/color for 86 C-10
« on: September 27, 2013, 01:26:30 pm »
Anyone have any suggestions for Paint brand and color for a 1986 C-10 Custom Deluxe?  Need to repaint my headlight bezels and grill.  Have searched the forum, one suggestion is to use the argent silver wheel paint, but not sure if it will adhere to plastic.  Looked at the Krylon Fusion products online, but don't see a color that matches.  Anyone ever had any experience with refinishing your grill to original color?

Mine has been painted black but I'm thinking about going back (Or trying) to the chrome look so I'm interested in hearing some info on this as well.

I have tried the chrome look and it was not good.  Just looked like a bad silver.  Maybe it was just how I did it though.  I even used the clear coat, but it is already coming loose.  These were new headlight bezels and I thought I did a good job of cleaning and prepping, but my paint was not specifically for plastic like the Fusion.  I am curious about the Fusion, but if I do this again, I will just use the SEM interior vinyl paint with a clear.
You could also take the pieces to a body shop and let them use flex adder and a BC/CC.

I'll post mine. I painted my Bezels over 9 months ago, so it's not as bright. But still good. It's a wheel paint from Walmart. Primer then paint. It brightened the Bezels up I

Jeff, I used a PPG fine flake Silver mixing color DMD 1680 & cleared it with a semi-gloss clear which makes it look VERY similar to the original paint. I used typical auto spray paint, base coat-clear coat with primer & prep for plastic. Lorne

Haulin It - So you sprayed with a typical spray gun?  I don't have access to anything like that, was thinking I was gonna have to use something in a rattle can.  I hate to take it to a body shop, and don't really need to order a new grill (nothing wrong with the one I have).  I gotta friend that has a body shop, maybe he can spray it for me using the paints you mentioned.  Thanks!

On my old brown 87 crew, I used VHT (Krylon) Ford Argent Silver wheel paint.  Tough as nails, and looked right!
