Need Steering column HELP

Hopefully someone can help me out asap, been with out truck for a week LOL
have a 82 c10 4spd manual. The steering wheel was extremely loose when I pulled the threads for nut had been chewed up badly some how over the years and owners. A friend had a tilt column from a 85 blazer (AT) (ive wanted a tilt anyway) so pulled them to make swap.
the blazer had cruise and no lever to release key (like my 82) so i switched out the turn signal unit and used my lock cylinder(w/screw hold) all looks good so far excepet the rod for ignition switch seems to long for switch from 82? Can I put a couple small bends in the rod to reduce length? or make adaptors for screw holes? has anyone ran into this? any help very appreciated

     Pics would have helped us to see what you are talking about, but I would say if you can bend/cut the 85 to match your 82 where it hooks up it will work just fine.

Sorry about no pix, was a last minute snag, well after trying to rig ignition switch to work, it ended up having key turn wrong way to start, ended up getting a new ignition switch for an 82 with tilt ($11.99 even on my tight budget was cheaper than headache LOL) turns out it does mount reverse on standard vs tilt, so the switch is reversed as well. after some minor cut outs for standard turn switch (still have to cut off AT lever "hump") all working good, will post some pix asac
