98 K1500 Suburban 5.7L Auto 4x4 - engine codes po120 & po340
« on: October 24, 2013, 12:04:07 am »
I've been dealing with my wife's suburban and the SES light for some time now. It actually started after I swapped in a K&N air filter. We also had a pretty good snow and one of the O2 sensor wires got hooked on transfer case driveshaft and pulled in two. I splice that back but no luck. I have a cheap Napa code reader and it keeps giving me po120 and po340 codes. They will trip immediately after clearing.
I changed all 4 o2 sensors this evening and still the same codes. Po120 is supposed to be o2 sensor and it shows up as the first and second codes on the list so I figured it meant left and right bank.

I think the po340 was for MAF sensor. I sprayed it with MAF cleaner for Napa but nothing changed.

What am I missing here?  It also has a strong fuel smell from tailpipes and maybe even something different. Could it be the cats is causing the smell and codes?  It drives fine going down the highway, but fuel mileage has suffered.

I also has a problem if I reverse and then switch to drive, I have to wait a second or it will stumble and almost die. It also will sometimes surge a little if idling in drive with foot on brake for too long.

the o2 codes will say bank1 or what ever sensor it is BUT Po120 is for the tps and po340 is the camshaft position sensor

if you meant po102 thats a maf code and o2 codes are still in the 100s. and the maf code could be cause the k&n filter oil on the sensor

I did some more research last night.  The PO120 code is for the O2 sensor circuit.  Could be any part of it.  The PO340 like you said is camshaft position sensor circuit.  I must have fixed one of the codes because I remember having a MAF code, but the cleaner must have done it.  Also, I removed that K&N filter long ago.

I did find a pretty good website while researching.  troubleshootmyvehicle.com
The site also lists another one.                              easyautodiagnostics.com

Well I feel like an idiot.  I got to thinking at lunch time that I had not checked fuses yet.  I checked all of the fuses and did not find anything until the second to last fuse that my Suburban has.  It was a 20A fuse and it was blown.  The fuse was marked ECM2.  After swapping it out and clearing the codes, I started the Suburban and it runs great and has no SES light.
