Lowering Questions!
« on: October 30, 2013, 01:12:01 pm »
Hey guys!, I have recently purchased another c10 since my last was stolen a few years ago and am still broken hearted about it. I bought a pretty straight and pretty stock 74' f.s. shortbed. I just recently purchased 2" front drop springs and also rear shackles ( just the shackles, not the shackle mount). I installed these parts and was not happy with the height still. So I then removed a couple leaf springs to drop the rear a few inches lower. I would still like to drop the truck more, but also want to be safe about it. I am planning on ordering drop spindles and possibly the rear shackle mount. I have read many forums about the lower A arm rubbing when running stock 15x8" rallies and also rubbing inner fender with certain tire sizes. I have also read about when removing leaf springs that it is possible to break the leafs due to torque. I would just like to know what you guys have done to lower your truck and what parts you used. And also if you encountered any issues I listed or maybe some I haven't thought of yet. Thanks for your input!!

Don't remove the remaining last 3 leafs when attempting to lower via this way.   Keep in mind you load capacity drops and you need good shocks.
Depending on how low you want it, I would run 2" spindles (they typically don't have rubbing issues) and springs in the front for a 4" drop and either a flip kit (5-6" drop) or a shackle and hanger kit in the rear (4")

Thank you very much! I would like to go as low as I can without C notching the frame. I have been reading and although c notching seems safe, I don't really want to start cutting my truck lol. Do you know if all drop spindles have the same off set or is there a specific brand that would work best? I want to place my order soon so I can start cruising! All help is very appreciated. I am working on a budget but want to make it right and safe.  :)

If you don't plan on C notching, dont get a flip kit or lower it more than 4" in the rear.  Most 2" spindles shouldn't have issues.  McGaughy I know have had issues that require clearancing as do Some Belltechs.  If you run a larger rim than 15", it won't be an issue.

What would be the issues for the 15" stock rallies? And also I already have shackles in the rear and ordered the 2" drop hangers for the front mount on the leaf springs. With the shackles, hangers, and the removed leafs will there be an issue in the rear being too low? I will also post picture when I finish!

on some drop spindles with 15" rims the lower control arm has to have the lip at the end removed to not rub the rims...
You should be fine, but if you measure where you want to be and an extra 2" puts you to look be ready to put leafs back in.
