Valve cover issues
« on: October 31, 2013, 08:07:20 pm »
I have swapped out the 305 for a 454 in my '85 K10. The engine has roller rockers which is making it difficult to find a set of good aluminum valve covers that will clear the brake booster when trying to install.

Has anyone else swapped their SBC for a BBC and ran into this issue? If so, can you share any info?

I would like cast aluminum in which I found a set of slant covers at Summit (haven't purchased yet) but they do not have baffles.

Thanks.

you won't be able to fit tall valve covers under there.

You are correct about the tall ones not fitting. The guy who built my engine put a CHEAP set of fabricated aluminum valve covers (made in china) on and they fit under the booster, but they are already warped a little and hit a few rollers.

I have to use slanted vc's unless a short set would clear the rollers??????

Do they make a GOOD set of fabricated aluminum valve covers or should I stay away from the fabricated ones and stick with cast?

A buddy of mine let me borrow one of his vc's off his 468 and it fit perfect. It was a cast aluminum slanted vc but did not have baffles (he races it). Summit sells the same ones but they do not have baffles either.

I have a place who could tack weld some baffles in, but I'm not sure if that would distort the vc in anyway even though it would only be very minimal welding.

since it aluminum not saying it wont distort vut it should handle the heat with no problem. your welding shop should be able to look at the vc and see how they will handle it
