Engine dies. Carb issue?
« on: November 08, 2013, 08:48:30 pm »
1985 GMC 3/4 ton 2WD 454

Recently I had the intake off and after putting everything back together I seem to have an idle issue.  I haven't drove it yet but increasing the RPM either slowly or quick: no problems, under load no issue there either but the moment I let off the gas the motor dies, dies as though you killed the spark to the motor (that fast.)  I set the timing at 8 degrees with the advance disconnected, vacuum lines seem to be all in place or plugged (removed the little bit of emissions equipment that existed.)  The carb is a quadrajet and not looking at it this very moment I believe I have two ports on the front of the base plate plugged, and the PCV valve is new and connected to the front of the base plate, I've double checked that the vacuum hard line on the back of the base plate is tight as well.  The carb seemed to work just fine prior to removing it....Any thoughts?  I feel that somewhere I over-looked something.

Thanks!

Did you have to do anything with it after swapping like readjust the carb?
Do you have a vacuum leak?
