Cab weight
« on: November 22, 2013, 11:13:29 am »
About how much does a cab weigh on a K10 (no particular year), without the seat? Just wondering for a potential future project...need to know if my hoist can handle it.

not entirely sure, but ive seen people use a cherry picker to lift the cab off, with no seat and no doors

I just took my cab off this past weekend. Used an engine hoist and went in through the drivers door. No problem but it is a little front heavy just watch that.

Completely gutted with no doors, seat, steering column, brake booster, A/C, or dash you are looking at about 200#.

When I painted mine, me, and my oldest son carried mine by running a 2x4 through the door openings and let the weight ride on our shoulders.

By removing the doors and seat it is very manageable by 2 people or balancing on a 4x4 going through the cab pressed up against the roof using a cherry picker.  I've taken one off a frame by myself a few years ago.

If you think that is hard to believe......

After I stripped my 4x4 frame my wife, and I were able to carry it by ourselves......... And she is only 5'2, 110#
