front coil spring installation

well im tryin to get my front suspension back together on my 2wd 77 chevy. its the bare frame on the front with no motor or cab but it had a bed and rear axle connecting. i'm having big trouble trying to get my coil springs in. there aint enough weight on the frame.any suggestions would help i worked on this all night and got nothing accomplished. very frustrating.

Get a set of cheap claws for the springs, if you don't want to go that route, just leave em out till you get some weight on the front and throw a block in there to keep the front end up while youre working on it.

I did the same thing with no engine.Had to rent a spring compressor.No problem if the springs are compressed short enough.

i borrowed a spring compresser from the garage down the street but its the kind the clamps onto the outside on eachside of the spring but they are to long. what kind of compressor do i need and were can i rent one.

You need one that has a threaded rod that goes through the center of the spring with two hooks on opposite sides to compress the spring..

the only stores i have close by are napa and advanced auto parts. would they rent these out as well?
