The one I listed above is a 10", is 400 Watts RMS, and its dimensions are 15'' X11.8'' X 3'', for $157 and free shipping.

Sounds like I might have the 3.5 and sub somewhat figured out, but what about the 6x9s?  What are the opinions?  Maybe if I ran the 3.5s and 6x9s off the head unit with some of the bass tuned out and bass blockers on the 3.5s, I would get the nice sound I'm after and the sub would add the extra level of bass.

Maybe I should look at putting the 6x9s in my 92 C1500 and putting something in the fiberglass in the headliner or kick panels.  Probably not both.

Depending on the head unit, it will bass-cut the main speakers when you tell it there is a subwoofer installed anyway.

I really like the 4" Kicker DS400s in the Highliner headliner.  One advantage of the headliner mount: you can get the music really loud at your ear (that's the point, right?) without over-driving the speakers, so the sound quality is much better given the same equipment than mounting them somewhere further away.

Rich - I must have been looking at a different one then.  That might be the better choice.  I like the 3" depth a lot more.  I was on Infinity's website and they show some other Basslink items that sound pretty cool, but are not available in pricing.  They only show up in a brochure download.

Your post about the Highliner is what got me thinking about the upper speakers.  I just wonder if it will be too much weight for a stock type headliner.

I almost forgot about the head unit.  I put mine in a buddy's Suburban, because it only had one set of out puts, and with some of my previous thoughts I might need two sets.  But I'll probably decide on head unit after speakers are sorted out.

I'm not sure what the hard points look like behind the headliner.  What is your headliner now?

Get a head unit with a USB port.  Then you can rip a coupla hundred CDs and have them all in the unit all the time.

This also means you can use a head unit that fits the stock dash cutouts, if your dash hasn't been cut for a CD player already.

No need to drag around the CDs if you can rip them all to USB.

Mine is missing, but it came stock with one.

I have been trying to decide if I can use the tank selector switch hole for something.  I had thought about putting a USB port I there to route to the back of a head unit.  I also don't need or want the ashtray, so I thought I could turn it into sort of like a docking station or just holder for my ipod or iphone.

The headliner is missing?  Then why not the Highliner?  It'll take the same paint as the plastic trim, so you can paint it to match your interior.

I haven't decided on why not the Highliner, except cost. I don't remember the cost difference right now.

Highliner is $290 or so.  4 Kicker DS400s are $60 at Amazon.  The Lanzar VCTBS10 above is $157, also at Amazon.

So about $510 for everything except the head unit.  Plus the shipping on the Highliner.

That's your comparison price point against whatever else you could do for speakers, enclosures, subwoofer amp, and headliner.
