Suggestions, Questions & Comments about my 75.
« on: December 09, 2013, 12:11:48 am »
Hey guys, bought a 75 Scottsdale about a year ago and wanted to show it to yall and ask a few questions about it.

Feel free to give me some suggestions or any comments about it.

Heres some pics of her.

Shes got a lift and 35" tsl swampers.

Engines a 350. Not sure what all is done to it except its cammed, has a edelbrock performer rpm intake manifold. aftermarket carb wires and stuff. She gets up and goes.

Has a manny 5 speed R,1,2,3,4

Has true duels with some God awfully big mufflers on it. I plan to cut and replace with straight pipe lol.

Wiring is just a plain old mess. Wires hangin under the dash, wires goin straight in the fuse block, most gauges don't work, radio is wired into the headlights lol.

Heres a couple questions though boys, have any of you guys rewired your truck to the new spade style fuse block? If so how big a pain is it, and mainly what is the best kit to buy for it? some claim plug and play others you have to make yourself.

Which one would you guys prefer?

It has factory a/c but they have deleted the compressor and stuff. still have the evap reciver dryer duct and lines in it though, plan to get it goin in the future. The ol vent windows keep me cool now, gotta love old trucks.

Heres another question, im replacing the heater core right now but the previous guy decided to cut the vac lines under the dash. Will I need to hook all them up just to get heat out the vents? or could I get by for this winter just throwin in a heater core?

Anyways, shes a good old truck only gave $1600 and it already had everything done I just said. So not bad in my mind. Im die hard chevy guy so I love her.

Let me know what yall think.

The store here sells a complete wiring harness that uses spade fuse, and everything Capt (owner) sells here is good and legit. He says if he wouldn't use it, he wouldn't sell it. http://store.73-87chevytrucks.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=7&Product_Code=AAW-510347&Category_Code=ELEC

I have never had any older then 79, but I do know that usually the trucks that have AC, use a vacuum line to open and close your baffles and where the air is ducted. So for heat or AC your system is probably stuck in one position even if you move it (ie. floor, defrost, vents). Also I know in the 80s ones (do not know about 75) there is a vacuum line that goes to the baffles down by the foot wells that opens and closes them depending if AC is on or not.

Like I said never own a 75, but I am sure if I am wrong someone will correct me if I am incorrect.

'73-75 HVAC system parts should interchange.

'76-up HVAC was different, but if you found a complete HVAC setup on a '76-up truck you can swap the complete system (control panel, plenum box, vacuum hoses, wiring, etc.) into the '75.

Have you looked at the '75 shop manual in the tech section?  There will be a vacuum schematic that will show where the hoses run so that maybe you can repair the system you have now.

If the vacuum lines were cut and the system is working like it was designed your vents should all default to defrost.

That will mean no heat on the floorboard.

"radio is wired into the headlights lol."

Sounds like someone wired the 3 pin power connector up wrong and used the (grey I believe) dimmer wire as the 12v constant power for the memory.  Most just tie into the cigarette lighter for that power I think.  That's how mine is at least.
