Vent Weatherstripping Question
« on: December 14, 2013, 11:55:04 am »
Now that I have my truck running again and happy with its timing, I decided to go ahead and replace my door weatherstripping.  I ran into a question and did a lot of searching, but I haven't found anything that really answers my question.

I've been following various posts and some youtube videos to do the vent windows and I think I have the wrong kind of weatherstripping for the vent or something.  I got one-piece vent seals which RockAuto has told me are for my truck - I called them and double checked.  I even went to various other parts houses and checked and they all come up with one piece vent seals for a 1985 C10.  BUT - the ones I pulled out are two piece vent seals and have the little black tabs down the back!  Is this the way it is supposed to be?

The new ones look like this and have no instructions about installation:

I've been following these videos and a few others just for reference:

Did you look at this tech post?  http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=27075.0
1985 vents could have 1 or 2 piece seals from the factory, you "Can" make them work though..

Who makes the seals you bought?  We sell weatherstripping for these BTW.

Aww crap...  I wish I would have found that tech post before.  That explains an awful lot that I really should've known before I even ordered these.  They are from RockAuto and labeled "Metro" and "Made in USA".  Strangely, back when I ordered them (quite a while ago, now) Rock said they were "Fairchild" but the packaging disagrees.  It was a whole kit including the window tracks and the vent window weatherstripping.

I would have bought the weatherstripping here if I had known about this back then.  Well, I guess I gotta make the best of what I got at this point.  I've done 3 convertible tops on Cutlasses - so I am familiar with weatherstripping cement...   :)

EDIT: Just checked and Rock doesn't even sell that kit anymore.

I believe Fairchild made Metro's at one time.
