Frozen fuel line?
« on: December 18, 2013, 11:17:12 am »
My truck was parked from Friday to Sunday and when the truck warmed up on Sunday it was having trouble when under any load(like it was running out of gas). It's been real cold in Connecticut since the end of last week so I suspect the line could be frozen but not completely. I changed the fuel filter on Monday but it still seems to have the issues. It's supposed to be 50 this weekend so I'm hoping to have my answer but if you guys have any input it would be appreciated. Thank you

Is it diesel ? I know that stuff  starts to turn to gel around -10. But i don't think normal gasoline freezes.

Fuel lines freezing is unusual with 10% ethanol in the gas.  Ethanol absorbs water and keeps it from causing problems.

there is a rubber hose in between the fuel pump and assembly this can and will crack and leak causing a lack of fuel pressure. my buddy was working on a mid 90s chevy was running like crap so he gave her a tune up. plugs wires cap rotor fuel filter, still running like crap i happened to stop by saw what he was doing and told him about this rubber hose. dropped the tank and sure enough she was cracked. new pumps come with this hose so you replace it when you replace the pump. most time the pump is still good just the hose is leaking. not saying im sure its your problem but it could be a possibility. best thing would be to test your fuel pressure

I suspected ice because the fuel level was pretty low...I guess I will be able to rule that out when the temps increase this weekend. Is it possible that the new fuel filter could have gotten dirty awhile after driving the truck. It's runs good when first started after taking off and gets gradually worse until it's shut off again. Thanks for all your help!

if you have a lot of crap in the tank the new filter can get dirty fast. then it can let enough gas threw to idle/run but when it needs the fuel it will be too restricted to let any threw. but there is also a fuel sock on the fuel pump assembly that acts like a filter it can do the same thing.

Step one check fuel pressure

If step one fails, start making your way to the tank and pull tank if necessary.
