Swap Auto trans for Manual
« on: December 22, 2013, 02:34:21 pm »
77 GMC shortbox stepside, 350ci 4bolt (stock or close), chain driven NP transfer.
just wondering how hard it is to go from Automatic trans to 4 on the floor. What is the recommended gearbox and transfer case. Is it hard to do?
Thank you!!

Simple I have done it multiple times.

Find a donor truck. Basically you need the transmission, transfer case, clutch, bell housing, and the clutch pedals and linkage from the cab. You want the SM465 tranny, and the NP205 gear drive transfer case.

Not really necessary, but I try to get the manual steering column so the final product looks factory to even the most discerning critic.

If you search these forums there is a thread that lays out swapping the auto to manual.
