Aftermarket parts???????
« on: January 07, 2014, 05:39:41 pm »
I have a 1976 Chevy Scottsdale. I bought it a little while back and I'm starting to fix all the rust on the cab. I will say it is rotted bad needs floor boards ( both sides ), cab corners ( inner and outer ), rockers ( inner and outer ). But someone all ready put on cab corners, rockers, and patched the floor with fiberglass over the rust. Anyway it's rotted out again, o I forgot to mention I work in a body shop and have restored a few cars. So doing the work isn't a problem but, it has aftermarket doors and hinges and they fit terrible before and they lined up there rockers to wherever they had the doors were set. So I want to get new doors and hinges that are a better quality than the cheap cheap cheap ones I have so I can line up my rockers and cab corners. What company or website has the best quality doors and hinges that in theory would just bolt on and fit. Cause the doors I have to make the gap between the door edge and back of the cab I need to weld a 1/4 in lip to close the gap. And the hinges are wore out and don't have enough play to make this door gap decent. I can't find original doors or hinges near me to save my life. Any input would help. Thanks.

My advice?

Buy OE doors off of a 1988~1991 Blazer, Suburban, or R/V series truck. They are the best GM offerings, they had much better laser qualified QC, US made, and the best part, they are galvanized.

I bought a set out of a junkyard. IIRC they were $75/ea. I completely stripped them, and used a filler primer to hide minor imperfections.

I am 100% satisfied with choosing this route on my rig. :)

Ummm........

Maybe, maybe not. I'm not making guarantees, but the later production will fit your older cab. I have them on a '77 K-10 cab with a '91 R/V series front end and it all looks beautiful. Body lines all match like they never did in 1977.

If I were rich I would have bought all I could when the cash for clunkers were wasting them a few years ago. :(

1973-76 doors and 1977-1991 doors are different, you will need ALL of the interior components from the donor.  By all you need to buy complete doors.
With that said, you won't be bolting them on and them just fitting either.  Especially if it has floor and rocker rot that has been previously replaced and based on your info, replaced cheaply (fiberglass).

The site you are on sells parts for these trucks and what I sell I would use on my own vehicle, but expecting anything to just bolt on and fit on a truck that was made in these years will end in disappointment.  The fit and and finish on the 73-87's from the factory were HORRIBLE compared to todays standards as in that 1/4" gap was acceptable.  If you want them perfect you will have to modify any and all hinges you purchase if you are looking for a perfect gap and when you get the door moved back to where you like it you will notice that the front is off, etc etc...
