what stereo setups are you guys running?
« on: January 15, 2014, 12:18:22 am »
I'm running two 280 watt kicker 6 x9's that sound great with my kenwood deck. I also have a 180 watt extremely slim 12" sub being powered by a 400 watt amp that hits pretty good. I'm looking for a little more bass than what I have. what do you guys suggest? will a higher wattage 10" hit harder than my 12 and still fit behind the seat?

also, I'm looking into getting one of those aftermarket decks that look completely original but have aux ports and USB connectors and RCA inputs in the back, have any of you seen one in person or even have one? how do you like it?

haven't seen a retro sound radio in person, but another option is to mount an aftermarket in the dash and have the stock one in the main hole if that is what your looking for. They also have adapters that plug in between the antenna plug that give you an option for aux/ipod hook up, just fyi.

as for harder hitting sub, you would be better off making the box ported if it is not already and it is the easiest option. Sealed boxes give you cleaner more precise hits, but a ported box will be louder (also you can not just drill a hole in it to make it ported (unless you buy a port tube and have room for it), you have to make sure it has enough area inside and most subs recommended the best style of port to go with the box). It also depends on how your sub and amp are match, you should always look for the RMS watt ratings and have them be similar ratings. Also is the sub amp a 4,2, or mono channel amp?? does your sub support 8,4,2 ohm? The low the ohm you can run the harder the hits will be.

This site sells Retro Sound radios.  I have seen and heard two different peoples setups.  They both sounded good to me.  I have one going in my truck

is it a bridgeable amp?? just because you have the wires spilt between the two channels does not mean the amp can support it. If it is bridgeable you will get more power out of it, because it can use both channels to play your sub (where as a non-bridgeable amp will still only be able to support it with one channel).

And I am assuming you wanted pics of the radio:

I have two 280 watt 6x9 and the deck i have is not puttin out enough power for what they're capable of, can I run driver front and driver back into one speaker? will it double the power output?

Short answer no it would not double the power because the built in amp is not bridgeable. Must head units the RMS rating pre channel is 15watts, which is not much. If you want more power you are going to have to run an 4 channel amp for your fronts and backs. If you are running a head unit (radio) that does not have 6 sets of pre-outs (front-LR/back-LR/sub-LR) then you need to make sure the 4 channel amp supports a high pass filter. Then there will be a separate harness that your stock wires (from radio) plug into and then you will run speaker wire from the amp to the speakers, and you will get the power rated out of the 4 channel amp.

I just picked up my 78 k10 a couple months ago.  Mine  came with a standard DIN size stereo cut into the factory location. Someone cut out holes for 6x9s in the doors just below the arm rests.  They look awful and dont fit flush but the sound good.  Ill deal with that in the future.  Also there is a 10" kicker bass station powered sub behind the seat.  It puts out enough bass for me and still lets me put the seat all the way back.  The head unit is a mid level walmart Sony of some kind.
